Arsenal Set To Leave Veteran

Arsenal have to look for another midfielder as they confirmed Brazilian Gilberto will travel to Greece to discuss a deal with Panathinaikos.

The Samba star slipped down the pecking order last term and hinted he would look to move on this summer, despite Gunners boss Arsene Wenger insisting he would be happy to keep Gilberto at the club.

The 31-year-old has made no secret of his desire to be playing regular first-team football and it could be that he feels the time has come to head for pastures new.

"As far as I know the player and the agent will travel to Athens to meet with the Panathinaikos people," Gunners acting managing director Ken Friar told Sportday.

"If Gilberto reaches an agreement then we will reach an agreement."
