Manager Suffer Injury Blow

Arsenal boss has suffered a major blow ahead of the new season with the news that midfielder Abou Diaby has been sidelined for a month by injury.

The Frenchman looked set to start alongside Cesc Fabregas in the centre of midfield but due to the injury, Wenger will be left with little option other than to field young Brazilian Denilson against West brom on Saturday.

"Diaby will not be available for the start of the season," admitted Wenger.

"So we will have to work on some things which I saw on Friday night [against Ajax]. It worked well with Denilson and Fabregas.

"You cannot say after just one match, you need a run of games to see if it [the partnership] will work, but I am confident it will."

However, the injury will not just be a disappointment for Arsenal, but for Diaby himself. With the departures of Alexander Hleb, Gilberto Silva, and Mathieu Flamini it looked set to be the season that the young Frenchman could finally make his mark at the Emirates. He will, however still be hoping to improve on his total of 28 games and four goals from the previous season, once he returns to action.
