Wenger : We Want A Creative Playmaker

Arsene Wenger admits he is looking to sign reinforcements in the January transfer window but expects to have limited funds at his disposal.

Arsenal defeated Portsmouth 1-0 at the Emirates yesterday but they trail Liverpool, the Premier League leaders, by ten points going into the second half of the season and have Cesc Fabregas, Tomas Rosicky and Theo Walcott out with long-term injuries.

"I want a creative midfielder," the Arsenal manager said. "That is to say a second midfielder, because my team is right in terms of manpower and experience. I can't spend money I don't have. The [global financial] crisis is upon us and we feel it at the club."

Arsenal have been linked with is Andrei Arshavin, the Zenit St Petersburg playmaker, but Wenger refused to confirm he is chasing the Russia forward. "There's no point in giving me names," he said.
