Arshavin Arsenal Arshavin

Arsenal are closing in on Andrei Arshavin and could complete the transfer later today.

Zenit St Petersburg general director Maxim Mitrofanov spent Sunday in talks with the Premier League club, reports the Daily Mail.

And the Russians have indicated the two clubs are finally close to agreeing a fee for the 27-year-old striker.

Arsenal have been reluctant to increase their £12million bid while Zenit had hoped to raise £20m, but that is now a non-starter.

Instead, the deal could rise to around £15m, dependent on appearances.

Arsenal are understood to have set today as a deadline for any deal.

  1. zenits revised fee is 17m and we are still only willing to stick to our 12+3 offer ...however usmanov has stated that he is ready to join the negotiations 'if needs be'. He is on the board of gazprom, the company that have holdings in Zenit and is willing to put up the 2 million needed for the deal to go through. Life.ru and sovsport.ru both reporting that the deal is virtually done and should be confirmed today 26th jan 09.
