Arsenal Close To Sign Giant Centre-Back

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has refused to deny interest in centre-back Per Mertesacker.

The giant Germany international has been repeatedly linked with the Gunners this summer as they search for additional replacements for Sol Campbell, William Gallas and Mikael Silvestre.

Wenger has already signed Laurent Koscielny this summer and he is thought to be interested in Udinese's Cristian Zapata as it is expected that he will sign another defender before the end of August.

But after Sunday's victory over Celtic, which clinched the Emirates Cup, the Frenchman insisted that he was "close to signing somebody".

Asked if Werder Bremen's Mertesacker would fit the bill, he said: "I wouldn't like to comment on names because it raises the price straightaway 50 per cent."

This may be the best signing if we can get these big player. Hope Wenger will make this move possible!

  1. This could be possibly true. I get from many sources that metersacker would love to move to arsenal

  2. does not match with heading make things real when they are not when u are speculating

  3. i really want it happen...

  4. I agree with naijagun. The new season is only two weeks off and we are still floundering and in the relm of speculation. This is not sure footed enough for a manager I felt could do no wrong a few years ago.

  5. agree..we really need somebody BIG at the back for threats like Drogba. Koscielny kinda fragile looking..
