Arsenal Eyes Another Frenchman

Roma's Philippe Mexes is under Arsenal's radar, according to La Repubblica, who claim he could be enticed by an offer from north London.

With Arsenal losing William Gallas, Sol Campbell and Mikael Silvestre, Arsene Wenger is eager to replace them and is scouring the market for a central defender.

And his first choice falls on Mexes. The Frenchman has long been linked with an exit from Roma and he is valued at around £9 million.

He recently rejected advances from Juventus, but the possible arrival of Nicolas Burdisso from Inter could see Mexes relegated to the bench, meaning an Arsenal offer would be tough to refuse.

Mexes was peripheral to plans last season, and having spent six years in the capital, a breath of fresh air could be welcome.
