Arsenal Launch Bid for Another Goalkeeper

Arsenal are reportedly preparing an audacious £23 million bid for Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina.

According to The Sun, Arsene Wenger has switched his target from experienced Fulham keeper Mark Schwarzer to the 27-year-old Reina, who has only recently signed a six-year deal at Anfield in April.

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has reiterated that he does not wish to sell any of his key players this summer, which could be a large stumbling block for any potential transfer.

Wenger has been actively seeking a new first-choice goalkeeper this summer as Manuel Almunia and Lukasz Fabianski have both been prone to error in recent times.

Reina was purchased from Villarreal five years ago for a fee of £6m. He missed both legs of the Reds' Europa League 4-0 aggregate win over Rabotnicki, after only returning to training on Monday, following his World Cup success with Spain.

Such a big-money offer for an established player at a rival club would be a change from Wenger's normal transfer market strategy, although few can doubt the Spanish shot stopper's credentials.
