Bosnia's Defender Linked With Arsenal

With the Premier League season only two weeks away, Arsene Wenger is still looking to bolster his defence, with Bosnia captain Emir Spahic the latest name linked with a move to Arsenal.

The 29-year-old captained his national team during an impressive World Cup qualifying campaign, which saw Bosnia narrowly miss out on an appearance in South Africa. Spahic enjoyed three seasons at Lokomotiv Moscow before moving to Montpellier last summer. He was a rock-solid presence as Montpellier qualified for the Europa League and also scored two goals during the campaign.

A series of centre-backs have been linked with a move to Arsenal this summer, with Thomas Vermaelen , Johann Djourou and summer signing Laurent Koscielny the only senior centre-backs at the club. The News of the World reports that Spahic will be a prime target for Wenger, particularly if German defender Per Mertesacker does not sign for Arsenal.

Spahic is a left-sided defender but can also play at centre-back. He has plenty of strength and pace and is an assured presence at the back.

Spahic would likely be a cheaper option for Arsenal than other rumoured targets such as Mertesacker, Phil Jagielka and Bolton's Gary Cahill. SO,what do you think Gooners??

  1. Arsenal have plenty of quick defenders at the club and just need to learn how to defend with them. Some of the teams we play-however- are not so much quick as big. Arsenal could do with one 'Tony Adams' type of defender to welcome Drogba and Birmingham's Serbian giant into the box. For the away games at the anti-football clubs it would help to play with a back line of six-footers. Buying one Tony Adams would facilitate this.
